The narrator did an excellent job in this audiobook. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more of the series.

Annie Laurance has inherited a book store from her much beloved uncle. The bookstore carries murder mysteries and is named 'Death On Demand'. Annie has moved from New York to the tiny South Carolina island community and is beginning to feel settled in. Then -- a murder occurs -- then a second and third. The local sheriff immediately accuses Annie of not only those murders, but of murdering her uncle as well.

Luckily for Annie, her old boyfriend has finally tracked her down and shows up to help her. Max Darling (how is that for a name) is ultra rich, ultra handsome and totally hooked by Annie. He throws his all into solving the murders and helping Annie -- but they manage to keep up a good rivalry between them. The banter is good and there is a bit of humor in there as well.

Death on Demand Death on Demand Mysteries No 1 Carolyn G Hart 9780553263510 Books Reviews

I love well written cozies. Examples of what I consider very well written mystery/cozy authors would be Charles Todd (Ian Rutledge), and Louise Penny. I did enjoy the Cleo Coyle Coffee Mysteries. My favorite part of a cozy is getting to know the characters as the books continue.

Death on Demand series is OK. It lacks some of the writing skills of the more "talented" authors and (having read 3 in the series) the plot is already getting stale.

That being said, they are enjoyable reads, easy to pick up and put down!
After reading the last book in this series, I just had to start at the beginning with the first book. Enjoying the book and mystery author references.
This book was an easy read. Lots of characters and fairly easy to follow. I read this for my mystery book club.
I got this book for free when it was offered on one of my Facebook favorite walls. I read like there is no tomorrow and even more since I got my . offers free books all the time, which gives you an opportunity to check out new and/or different authors you might not normally know or read.

I loved this book and will continue to read this author. I have bought several of this authors books and will continue to buy!
If all the name- and title- dropping was taken out of this manuscript it would be about half as long. It could have been a cute little mystery except for that. And the author must keep her dictionary close...the adjectives and adverbs just flow on the page. Disappointed as I had always heard this was a good series
What inspired me to begin this series is reading the Southern Sisters Mysteries, where Carolyn Hart books were mentioned. This was not a bad read, even though I had determined the killer a quarter into the book. Most annoying was the constant reference to other Mysteries during the book. While I knew most of them, but not all. Will try the second book and hope with writing experience the author improves and the books will improve.
Like the premise, characters and settings and really like the mystery within a mystery -- identifying scenes of another mysteries. This is the third M-O-D book I have read but this will be the last for two reasons; 1.) There was always something extremely done by knowledgeable/experienced people (an off duty cop showing up without her gun or in the case of this book having a diskette that will prove your innocence not making a copy or giving it to the police but taking it to the initial murdered person's home alone and having the murderer knock you our and then steal and wipe the disk). 2.) Broward's Rock cannot be a "peaceful community" and have as many murders committed on that tiny island. It will either be overcome with visitors coming to see the murder capital of the south-east or the population will be leaving in droves for their own safety. S. Holmes & H Pierrot at least solved murders in a major city or traveled around.
Easy, light read. Young likable main characters. Granted the main character owns a mystery book store but there are too many references (for my taste) of other notable and not so notable mystery writers and their books. Begins to seem forced and I find myself skipping over those parts. Not on par with a Christie, James, or Grimes, but entertaining enough that I will read the series. Should read the books in order so the life changing events stay in sequence.
