Starved The Starved Series Book 1 eBook Kelleen Silveira

Even before I finished this book, I thought WOW! The book was really good, the idea original, the story well presented, the world well built and the characters well developed. However, the most impressive thing about this book was the way the author tackled heavy, difficult and taboo social issues. This makes the book a bit darker and more serious than I initially anticipated. I am very curious to see whether the author continued on this note or made the series a bit lighter as it progressed. I am purposefully vague here in order to not give out any spoilers.
The main character is a college student Tate, who is a bit unusual, very complex and quite troubled, due to the aforementioned issues. Tate is unnecessarily hard on herself at times, which is not surprising, considering the hardships she had to endure due to her physical appearance. Always on her own, she was conditioned to accept all kinds of treatments in order to be accepted in some way. Her transformation is one of the most interesting things in this story, as it is both physical as well as emotional. The author depicted Tate's behaviour and feelings in a very realistic way.
There are several other characters vital to the story, Tate's younger sister Katie, their parents, Tate's friend and neighbour Aaron, as well as Malek and a couple of police officers Ryan and Williams. All the characters are well developed and consistent.
The story was quite painful to read at times, in a way that it was painfully realistic as the author did not shy from taboo topics. Some of the more traumatic events or events most relevant to the story were told through Tate's flashbacks into the past, which adds to the realism and grimness of the situation.
Regardless, the book would not let me sleep or think about anything else. I relaxed a bit after I was well into the second book. And I am not talking about book being addictive, I am talking about plain and simple well written complex story that sparks your curiosity to an unbelievable degree. Even when I thought the story is winding down, it didn't. It was full of surprises until the very end, which is open to continuation.
The reading order of the series is: Starved (The Starved Series Book 1), Maimed (The Starved Series Book 2), and Snapped (The Starved Series Book 3).

Starved The Starved Series Book 1 eBook Kelleen Silveira Reviews

I honestly couldn't put this book down. I loved the 'flawed' and honest characters, and the storyline was enthralling. I finished the book a week ago, and I still find myself thinking about the characters, thinking about what they're doing. haha! That's how I determine a good book How much of my day is spent thinking about the characters. In this case, it was most of the day, and days after completing it. Highly recommend.
Be prepared to snuggle in and be entertained. From the first page to the last, this was a difficult book to put down. The plot was clever, the characters were smart and well written. I'm eagerly anticipating more from this author! Be sure to find time this season to be swept away into the intriguing world she has woven for us in this thriller. I promise you will find it to be a novel worthy of your time.
I stumbled on this free on and thought it sounded like a fun read. Not disappointed at all. Was exciting from the start. I see the second just came out. Off to buy it
I am upset that I didn't realize this was a series. The ending was awful and wrapped up in the last chapter, literally.
Could not put it down - she stole my whole Black Friday. A very fun read! A mix of interesting characters, including a sharp, snappy, funny protagonist with very human problems and reactions - and no lack of unhuman ones. The plot moves right along, no long descriptive or navel gazing doldrums. My only issue is how long until the next one?
Great book to escape in. The author has an easy flow to her writing. When I start a book if I'm not hooked within the first two chapters I move onto the next one. I just bought the next book in this series. I like the heroine and the story line. So far so good. I hate paranormal romance books with to much sex and not enough story line. Like Goldilocks said this one's just right. I recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal romance stories.
It took a few chapters for me to fully commit to reading the whole thing. There are a few things that I think were meant to be "A-ha" moments but I had and I am sure you will figure out way a head of time. But I really did enjoy this book. I liked the characters and the way they interact with each other. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
