This was fast paced, straight forward space opera. Lots of action, intriguing well thought out plot. Very well developed characters. Especially the young fidget Tank and his furzel mentor Reilly, unlikely heroes that added a touch of whimsy to the story.

Games of Command A Novel Linnea Sinclair 9780553589634 Books Reviews
The sci-fi action never stops in this story of the unexpected romance between Commander Tasha "Sass" Sebastian and Admiral Branden Kel-Paten. Now that the UC and Triad are at peace, the two work together under the new political alliance. Unexpected space phenomenon, secrets from the past, and betrayal test not just the alliance, but the partnership between Sebastian and Kel-Paten. Oh, and did I mention furzels? I want furzels to be real, please. Allll the furzels.
I only wish my only regret is that I have not read anything by this wonderful amazing author the four and by accident I bumped into this novel. I will go on and read the rest of her work and I can honestly say this is a long read but so well worth it! There is so much to say but words are not enough 2 describe all of the wonderful plot, character development, Space Opera, Romance and most of all love! Love indeed conquers all!
I'll start by saying that Games of Command is one of and may be my favorite book. I've reread the whole book as well as severals parts of the story several times through the years. It never fails to bring a chuckle. The world that Linnea Sinclair introduces to us is interesting and complex. It's so easy to get lost in the story and feel that you are right there in the star ship witnessing all the twists and turns as they happen. Captain "Sass" Sabastien and Admiral Branden Kel-Paten may be my favorite couple of any book that I've read. If you like Science Fiction with romance mixed in, you will love this book. One of Ms Sinclairs best books, in my opinion.
This story is really confusing from halfway to the end of the novel.
I just finished reading it, and . . . what the heck is with 'the void'? What is it? A bit of crazy silly space as the heroine's pet telepathically tells the heroine? Yet, in this crazy silly space there is a world, there is people, there are people raised from the dead, there are things mentioned that aren't explained, apparently people vanish and reappear in odd and dangerous places. Matter can or can't be real. You need a vortex to get there or get out, or a ship to make your ship crash and push you there. Then the hero loses the heroine, but I missed the part where she was lost. Then things happen ALL THE TIME to the ship and it's just bloody boring. It's like driving a car. It's the interactions of the people within the car or what's going on outside with scenery that make it interesting. This was just 'thrusters online' 'confirmed' etc.
All this talk of crazy love, but the sex scene was the most disappointing of them all.
This book was so confusing.
I have read this a couple of times and Kel-Paten is one of my favorite characters and Sass and him make a great couple.
He is one of my favorite cyborgs and I have read several books with cyborgs, and he is right up there for being a sexy, hot hero
even through he is now not fully human nor all machine. Trying to be in tune with his once all human side and keep his emotions to himself so his feelings will not be discovered and he be reprogrammed and not treated as a full human by his peers are all part of this great story by Linnea Sinclair. She writes a good scifi romance, with believeable charcators and locations. I have most of her books and I like this one the best.
I loved the interactions between Branden Kel-Paten and Tasha Sebastian. They're actually why I bought this book to begin with, although I must admit that Eden Fynn and Jace Serafino's storyline was almost equally as good as that of the admiral and captain. The furzels are so cute and are a great defense against the Ved'eskhar psi-vampires. Mind you, however, I read the novella in the Pets in Space 3 anthology first and thought these psi-vampires were physical beings, not glowing light blobs. That was rather strange.
But the book and the characters were highly interesting and entertaining nearly throughout. There were some interactions near the beginning that I found suspect, but the characters quickly evolved into real, likable people whom I could relate to. And that, in the end, is all anyone can ask for an excellent plot and relatable characters that you feel for when they go through the rough times.
Just so long as the guy and girl fall in love at the end with a black and white furzel watching over them both.
I liked the book the first time I read it because of the action. It's Star-Trekky space opera, nothing very original or profound but still fun. The second time I read it I still liked the action but not so much the characters. Of the four main characters, I dislike three; I also dislike the second romance (which takes up a lot of space) between two unlikable characters (Jace/Eden). Jace is a cruel, self-serving, lying, mean and petty telepath; Eden is a self-righteous, weak willed empath/emerging telepath; Sass is an oblivious, dumb, deceitful ex-smuggler. All three are manipulative. Only Kel-Paten, a cyborg admiral, seems a creditable hero. Eden is supposed to be Sass' best friend but what best friend would ask her best friend to spy for her and potentially be court-martialed? All because of a sexual attraction to Jace. Both Jace and Eden use their telepathic abilities unethically. The author gives no reason for Sass' willingness to conspire with Jace/Eden behind Kel-Paten's back and to jump to conclusions about his bad intentions. Doesn't make sense other than making Sass out to be a dimwit. Sass never respects Kel-Paten, makes jokes about him behind his back and never treats him as her CO. It's hard to imagine a romance between the two.
So, if the author cuts out the second romance and all the nastiness from Jace/Sass/Eden, then maybe it will be a more enjoyable book. And make it a 100 pages shorter.
This was fast paced, straight forward space opera. Lots of action, intriguing well thought out plot. Very well developed characters. Especially the young fidget Tank and his furzel mentor Reilly, unlikely heroes that added a touch of whimsy to the story.
