Jude Deveraux has always been one of my favorite writers and she clinched it with A Knight in Shinning Armour. I love her time travel books and this one was a good story about the lives of three women who met briefly when young and starry eyed. But then life came along and their passions were forgotten and put aside. They each get a second chance to redo things and well you'll have to read it to see how marvelously the story is told. I am now going to read the follow up book, Return to Summerhouse but it looks like three new characters. Either way is fine with me because I know that Ms. Deveraux will tell a great tale.

I love Jude Devereaux & this book did not disappoint. It brings up realistic concepts & is thought provoking. The story is told in a way that flows & was interesting from the beginning. I can't tell you how many times I literally LOL'd. I'm sure as I listened in my car the people in the cars around me probably thought I was nuts! The characters & storyline were engaging & I found myself wanting to hear more of their story after finishing the book!!!
Madison, Leslie and Ellie all met on there 21st birthday in the D.M.V in NYC. They became friends, but did not keep in contact with each other. That is until their 40th birthday when Ellie invites the two others to a cabin in Maine. That is where their lives, and relationships change.

They all share their stories of what went wrong with their lives.

Ellie a former artist/best selling author got screwed by her ex-husband in a divorce and lost her money

Leslie got married to her boyfriend and has two kids, but her husband has a sexy secretary and she keeps taps on a very sucessful Presidential canidate.

Madison gave up a lucrative modeling career to care for the boyfriend that had jilted her and by the time that she had met the guy of her dreams she didnt feel she diserved him.

Then thanks to a woman in the town they are staying in they are able to go back to try to redue three weeks of their lives. What will happen. Will there lives be better, or worse. Read The Summerhouse.
This book is one of my top 2 favorite Jude Deveraux books! (the top one being Knight in Shining Armor, of course!)

It is excellent...Don't we all wonder what we would change if we could go back in time and have a "redo"? And would we really change anything? I know many times I have wondered if I made the best decisions in my life...and what if one little decision had been different?

If I had chosen a different college, I would not have met my husband. I might not have had infertility. I might not have adopted my daughter, or had my son, etc. My life, which is pretty darn great, would be different.

This book explores those possibilities...for 3 very different women, who had 3 very different lives. And then they had to decide if they wanted to keep their new life, or keep their old life.

What a choice! Who can resist finding out? If for no reason than to live vicariously thru them?

Buy this book. Read this book. I think you'll enjoy it! I know I did, and I have loaned it out to many of my relatives, from my granny to my mom to my sister!

This is one of my favorite stories, one of those books you can come back to and read again every few years. The characters are fascinating. Each of the three leading ladies have their own unique personalities, and yet all three are extremely likable and sympathetic characters. The magic woven into the story is a fun and fantastical element, and it's written in such a way as to be believable. It could easily have gone over the top, but did not. I wish I could find more romantic novels like this!
During a long flight layover, I picked up "The Summerhouse" from a free books box located in the military USO lounge and began reading it to kill some time. Right from the start I grew attached to the story line and ended up taking it with me when I left the airport. I love it so much because of how quickly the reader becomes involved with the characters. I felt myself experiencing what each woman was experiencing. My favorite character was Madison. I often find myself mentally casting actresses for her part if this book were a movie (so far, the closest I've come to the right Madison would be Xenia Tchoumitcheva or Adriana Cernanova). I would LOVE this to be a film. It would have something of a Steel Magnolias meets The Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood quality.
This is somewhat different from her usual books but I enjoyed it very much. This is the second time I have read it and it seemed even better this time. There was more depth to the characters than usual, however I have loved each book this writer has written and am hoping for many more.
I really enjoy thrillers or mysteries mostly but someone in my bookclub picked this book so I was forced to read it. Surprisingly, I did like it. Three women get the chance to go change a moment in their past knowing what they know now. Two of the girls change their past and one decides to keep hers the same. All three learn from the experience and return with more confidence for the future.
