A Covert Affair is the next thrilling installment in the Deadly Ops Series by Katie Reus. This is the story of Nathan Ortiz. He has been a secondary character in many of the deadly ops books and I was glad to see he was getting his own story. Some characters from previous books are included in this book, however, you do not need to read the prior books to enjoy this one. Nathan works undercover for Wesley Burkhart of the NSA in a black ops capacity. A friend comes to Burkhart with a problem, a missing woman, not quite something the NSA normally gets involved with, but Burkhart is willing to look into this as a favor. His analysts find a disturbing connection and about fifty more missing woman. He sends in Nathan (who has just been cleared for duty after being injured on his last op). His first night in Miami, Nathan runs into his old high school flame, Amelia Rios, who is a person of interest in the disappearance. The attraction between Nathan and Amelia is still there. Nathan has long thought about Amelia but never got the courage to research her or try to find her. Amelia, in turn has also thought about Nathan during their years apart. When she sees him at the party, she does not out Nathan as not being who he says he is but she does tell him that they need to talk. After their “talk” Amelia volunteers to work with the NSA in a civilian capacity to try and obtain information on the disappearances. Things come to light from their past. There are some misunderstandings and mistrust between Nathan and Amelia. With someone still abducting women from Miami will Burkhart’s team find the responsible party?

Excellent suspense romance. Good characters and I ended up reading them all and now consider myself a Katie Reus fan. Not much more to say.
I found the book to be interesting and fast-paced. The characters were well-developed and likable. I would try another book from this author in the future.
This, along with all of Katie Reus' Deadly Ops books, was fantastic. No matter how many books I read in a similar genre, Reus seems to have a way with her writing that allows the reader to vividly picture the scene playing out as you read it. This is the closest thing to watching it play out on television as you can get! Kudos!
Absolutely love this series and this book totally lives up to all the others Deadly Ops stories. It completely grabs you and doesn't let you put it down from the hot connection between Nathan and Ameliia to the suspense and drama that unfolds with the missing girls. I absolutely recommend this book. I hope there will be more many more Deadly Ops books yet to come.
After NSA agent Nathan Ortiz was hurt in action, he came home to Miami. He feels fine and ready to go back into action. And there is a case waiting on him. Missing women who are being abducted and there are murders. He goes undercover and while undercover, he runs into his first love, Amelia Rios. She is dating the prime suspect in the case, a man by the name of Iker Mercado. This is really the first time he has seen her since she suddenly broke up with him years before and ran away.
Amelia is a successful restaurant owner and she gives back in spades to her community. She ran from her past and the tragedy in it by helping the women in her community. She never expected to run into her former lover and first love ever again after leaving him and all the people in her past behind. She has to pretend she doesn’t know Nathan and soon its hard to know what’s real and what’s not, and who is telling the truth to her and whose not. Nathan and Amelia come together to find who is taking the women and killing them or else someone else is next. But before they can get truly down to business, they both have to come clean and let their secrets come out to each other or they can never be free..
This is jam packed with action and adventure, passion and love. Forgiveness and Suspense. I loved how fast this story moved yet it was just at my pace. I loved Nathan and Amelia. They were the kind of couple I enjoyed reading about and their story made me root for them and for the outcome to be in their favor. Amelia has always held shame in regards to her past and a fear she will never be loved again and when Nathan reappears, she is scared he will never look at her the same. Nathan is such an alpha male who has never forgotten his first love and he is the kind of man that is the perfect book boyfriend. “A Cover Affair “ is a fantastic addition to the #deadlyops series and I cannot wait for book 6.

A Covert Affair is book 5 in the Deadly Ops series. Just like with pretty much every other book in any given Katie Reus series, I have to read it in one glorious sitting and it becomes my favorite until the next in that series releases.

We've met Nathan briefly in a previous story, but he's front and center in this one as one of the team operatives who is given point in a different than usual operation. Being a Miami native, he is best equipped to lead the team on a mission to find 35 missing women who share a general profile, including time spent at a local community center and restaurant as employees.

Nathan goes under cover and encounters restaurateur Amelia on a date with a prime suspect. She's the girl who dumped him in high school, the one who broke his heart, the proverbial one who got away without another word. She doesn't blow his cover, so after vetting her innocence in terms of the missing women, they bring her in on the operation to get more information on her date.

What is suspected as a human trafficking ring becomes something even more sinister as Nathan and Amelia try to solve the case, deal with repeated attacks on Amelia and overcome the secret from the past that may destroy any chance they have of moving forward.

We get to touch base with other Deadly Ops characters like Dax and Hannah, Selena, Maria and Cage, Wesley and so on during Reus's edge of your seat, suspenseful thriller. My favorite installment.....until the next, that is!
